If you’re using wireless earbuds, such as AirPods, and you take one out of your ear, Spotify will pause the song. This is because the AirPod detects your inactivity and pauses the song for you. However, if your Spotify continues to pause, you can try the following solutions.
Method 1: Disable Low Power Mode
Low power mode or a bad internet connection are typically to blame if you primarily listen to Spotify on your phone. This is due to the fact that a lack of bandwidth can cause lags when streaming Spotify.
On an iPhone, check to see if Low Power mode is enabled by going to Settings > Cellular Data Options > turning it off.
Please be aware that depending on the manufacturer of your phone, this setting might be different. However, you’ll almost always find this feature in Data settings.
You can also see if your data plan is limited. You can either upgrade it or connect to a reliable Wi-Fi network.
Method 2: Offline Mode: Play Songs
If you have trouble streaming songs on Spotify while connected to the internet, you can download and play them offline. This saves data and avoids errors such as automatic pauses and lags. Here’s how to download Spotify songs.
- Choose a song or podcast to download.
- The song will download and be saved in your “Liked Songs” playlist if you tap or Choose the heart icon to the right of the song’s title.
You can also download an entire playlist by clicking the three dots and then Download. All of your downloaded songs/podcasts can be found in the Your Library section.
Even if your internet connection is slow, downloading songs requires little bandwidth and is usually a quick process. Please keep in mind, however, that you can only download songs from Spotify if you have a premium account.
Method 3: Sign Out From Every Device
If you haven’t shared your Spotify account with anyone and it’s still pausing, it could be because you recently used another device to listen to Spotify. If both devices are turned on, Spotify can switch between them and pause the song. To resolve this, sign out of Spotify on all devices.

- Launch Spotify in your web browser.
- Select your profile photo by clicking on it in the top right corner.
- Select Account. This will take you to a different page.

Method 4: Enable Background App Refresh
Spotify is an app that continuously plays music in the background. If you disable Background App Reload, Spotify will be unable to refresh and may automatically interrupt music. So, here’s how it’s done on an iPhone:
- Navigate to Settings > General.
- Select Background App Refresh. On the new page, select Background App Refresh and then Wi-Fi and cellular data.
On Android phone
- To access the quick panel, swipe down on your home screen.
- Tap the Settings icon, then select Connections > Data Usage.
- Select Mobile Data Usage.
- Select Spotify from the available apps.
- Turn on the Allow background data usage option.
By turning on the toggle option, you can also allow background app refresh for only Spotify.
Method 5: Clear Cache/Data
Spotify cache files save information such as passwords, downloaded songs, liked songs, passwords, searches, and more. If you haven’t cleared cache files in a while, the data can become corrupted, causing apps to crash or fail to function properly.
As an example, Spotify pausing or failing to respond is one. As a result, you can clear these data to resolve Spotify issues. On your phone, follow these steps:
On the Android:
- Navigate to Settings, then Storage.
- Choose Spotify from the list of apps.

On The iPhone:

Why does Spotify continue to pause every 30 seconds?

Spotify will stop playing when you use any Discord feature that uses your microphone, such as voice calls, screenshare, and so on. This is due to Discord’s desire to adhere to Spotify’s terms and conditions.
You can change the voice activity sensitivity or use Push-to-Talk to prevent Discord from detecting your microphone.
Meanwhile, if you’ve linked your Spotify account to Discord, poor connectivity and other factors may contribute to this issue. So, disconnect Spotify from Discord and see if that resolves the issue. What you’ll need to do is as follows:
- Go to User Settings in Discord.
- From the left panel, select Connections. You can now see all of the apps that are linked to your Discord.
- On the right side of your Spotify account, click the small ‘X’ icon.
- A small box will appear, requesting confirmation of your action. Select Disconnect.
If you don’t want to disconnect but still want to fix Spotify pausing, go to Discord’s User Settings. Then, from the left panel, select Voice and Video. Scroll down until you see the Audio Subsystem option. Select Legacy from the drop-down menu. This will relaunch Discord and remove minor errors such as Spotify pausing.
